Dearest friend,
When you wander through the woods, even on a quiet day, have you noticed how loud it is?
The wind doesn’t have to be crashing through the branches with the ferocity of a tantrumming toddler, the rain doesn’t have to tap dance on the ground to the sound of some unheard jazz track, the sun doesn’t have to beat down the metronome click track of all the things growing, for that deafening sense of everything all at once to come at you like an oncoming storm.
Can you hear it?
The sounds of all the feet that have gone before. The winter whispers of a million tiny daggers of all the hoar frosts that have decorated the landscape over the years. The laughs echoing through the air in the spaces between the trees that stand solid and tall, the dreams tugged behind them like a kite being pulled into flight. The hands held together by an invisible force, that brush against the thighs of their respective owners with each swoosh of a stride. Tears that drop between the leaves that have fallen. Ideas that spring to life in the presence of something eyes can’t see but minds can feel. Can you hear it all?
Life reaching and rooting under ground, stretching and extending like it is an illustrated animation of the creation of the universe with stars expanding ever outwards.
Can you feel it?
Do they tell you their secrets, share the stories of a thousand summers and all the grazed knees gone before from stumbling into the brambles? Do their leaves make patterns that dance for you under the sun? Do their branches reach out to you, searching inwards, sifting through the fabric of your soul?
The woods are fizzing with something not quite of this world. The place where answers are found and stories are kept in that glowing dappled light where dreams and reality dance together.
Where is your magic place? The one that feels like the fairies dance beside you or else magic drifts through, thinning the air between worlds?

Still with me? I love writing letters, but even more I love getting them back. Let me know about your magic place in the comments below. It’s not quite a letter back, but I’d love it all the same.
If you know someone who would enjoy this post, please do pass it on.
This is so magical Nicole ✨ I think my magic place is simply anywhere with moving water. I'll take a tidal loch, the sea, even a wee stream will do the job.
Very well narrated Nicole! Feels magical to just imagine being in that atmosphere.. absolutely love it
I don't think I have a magic place as such yet..but anytime spent in nature by myself is the therapy for my mind, body and soul.
Thank you for your beautiful words 😊
